With seventeen buildings to visit, some of them dating to the mid-1800s and earlier, plus other utilitarian structures, there is always a maintenance backlog.
In the summer of 2024, the exterior of the Reception Hall, which houses the dining area, kitchen and restrooms, was repainted. The painter spent many hours prepping and repairing the cedar shingle siding, and making sure any deteriorated trim was renovated.
Currently the major projects are the renovation of two homes, the Levasseur-Ouellette House (built in 1859) and the Sirois House (early 1900s). Both homes require extensive replacement of exterior trim and clapboard or cedar shingle siding. The job requires meticulous attention to detail to preserve the historical integrity of the houses. The estimated cost of the carpentry and painting for the two homes is between $40,000. and $50,000. The Village is owned by the nonprofit corporation the Heritage Vivant-Living Heritage. We do not have an endowment. We depend on donations to pay for our large projects.
